Schools and Community Outreach

We have been delighted by the wonderful welcome we have had to the Glossop community, and we love getting to know you, your families and your dogs. Glossopdale and the surrounding areas is a collection of really lovely people who truly care about their community and their pets, and we are so proud to have been a part of it for the last 10 years!

So as a thank you we would like to give something back!

We have talks and demonstrations that we can bring to your pre-school, primary school, community groups and out-of-school clubs. We can cover a range of topics suitable to your particular requirements but we like to focus on responsible dog ownership and above all being safe around dogs! In the UK around a half of all households are pet owners so this is important stuff!

As a parent and a dog owner this is so important to me and I want to get the message out there!

Did you know that the under 10’s are most likely to be admitted to hospital because of dog bites? Or that last year there were over 7000 dog attacks in the UK? We believe that these horrendous statistics could be dramatically reduced through education and raising awareness along with careful socialisation and training of young dogs. We want to make a difference to this and believe we can!

Sadly dog rescues are full of unwanted dogs, as a result of irresponsible breeding and a lack of understanding of the responsibilities of dog ownership. Nearly 50,000 unwanted dogs were abandoned by their owners last year. Over 5000 healthy homeless dogs are unnecessarily being put to sleep each year by charities and local authorities because there is simply nowhere for them to go. This is heartbreaking and totally unacceptable. Through educating families and training dogs we can have a dramatic impact on this figure.

Dog ownership can be a wonderful asset to family life and the right family pet can be a valuable companion to a growing little boy or girl. Owning a dog has proven health benefits for the whole family such as reduced stress and better physical health. Dog ownership teaches our children empathy, compassion and responsibility. We certainly wouldn’t be without ours and my little boy would say the same!

So why not get in touch to find out about our completely free of charge schools, clubs and community outreach programmes. We have our own public liability insurance and have recent basic disclosures from Disclosure Scotland. We can’t wait to meet you!

Don’t just take our word for it!

Dear all,
This week we had a fab talk about being safe around dogs. One of our parents Nicola Davies is a dog trainer, she offered to come in to school and talk to the children about dogs and how to keep yourself safe around them. She used songs and pictures from ‘Dog Stars’ to help the children remember the key messages. She also used quizzes and acting to reinforce things. All our children enjoyed it and learned something, as did the staff. I know she would love to get into other schools to spread the message. If you would like to find out more her details are below.
