I’ve always been a bit of a geek and a swot. I love learning and I love doing my best. And I’m always prepared – I’m the queen of lists. Meal planning lists, shopping lists, packing lists, to do lists – I do them all. I don’t think this has anything to do with it, but the motto of the girl guides and scouts is ‘Be Prepared’ and of course I was a Girl Guide.
I loved being a girl guide, with my uniform and the badges I could earn for reaching certain goals. Ironically, though, there was one major incident on a Girl Guiding trip that I was totally unprepared for. For some reason I can’t remember now I was invited up on stage during our annual trip to see the Christmas Panto. I was completely embarrassed, and so relieved to get off the stage and walk back to my Girl Guiding Group. What I couldn’t understand was why they were all laughing at me as I walked back to my seat. Turns out I had the back of my skirt tucked into my knickers the whole time. I’ve not been to a Christmas Panto since.
When you are planning a new puppy you should definitely heed the advice of the Girl Guides and ‘Be Prepared’. A lot of families are in for a huge shock when they get their first family puppy. We expect something cute and cuddly like a teddy bear and end up with a mini alligator disguised as a ball of fluff. Even if you have grown up with dogs, you tend to forget how hard they were as puppies, and children are often completely unprepared.
